Pictures in order: Wallace/Gates/Truman home (also called the Summer White House), the courthouse where Judge Truman worked, Clinton's Soda shop where soda jerk Truman worked and the statue of President Andrew Jackson donated to the town by President Harry S Truman. Thought the photo made for good continuity.
Truman grew up in a family of poor farmers, but fell love with the daughter of a wealthy family who he met in Sunday school when he was 6 and she was 5 . Many people thought she was too good for him, but her persisted. They courted for nine years before he was in a position to ask her to marry him, which he did when he returned from WWI. After they married, he went to live with her family in the white Victorian home.
His first job of many was at the Clinton's soda fountain. Over the years he was a banker, a farmer, owned a haberdashery (until it closed in the Depression), was an officer in the Army and became a Judge and City Councilman.
