What we did on Saturday

On Saturday we did something super cool, but I didn't have any pictures for you since SOMEONE took my camera. Now I can tell you what we did. We went to an Iron Pour. Auntie H had heard about a neat opportunity to go to the Franconia Sculpture Park and make our own mold that will then be filled with Molten Iron! You get a block of sand and resin mixed together and shaped into a rectangle. you then spend some time carving out a design into the sand. Then someone paints down a layer of graphite to create a barrier between the iron and the sand. Then they open the forge and pour out molten, flaming red lava into a carrying bucket. The bucket is carried over to the forms that are lying on a short table. The iron is poured into the frame and allowed to cool for several hours. We actually saw them pour Miss K's. We didn't have time to wait so I drove back to Franconia today to get them. When we went back I took some pictures of the place for you guys. Here is the entrance to the park and one of the colorful cranes used to place the pieces.
