The rest of the day

The parade was supposed to start at 2:30, but unlike the rest of the day where everything started exactly on time, the parade was almost an hour late.  I did not find out until later about Senator Kennedy having a seizure at the post inaugural luncheon.
I did see the helicopter bringing former President and First Lady Bush to Andrews, but since it was one of the MANY helicopters overhead during the day I didn't realize that it was "Executive 1" until later.
The crowd dispursed quickly after the parade.  By then more metro stations had opened and more roads were opened to pedestrian traffic.
I headed up toward Union Station, planning to take the metro over to Dupont Circle where I was supposed to volunteer at the Washington DC Hilton.  However, the line to get into Union was stretched around the block so I started walking over to Judiciary to see if the crowds were just for Union.  No such luck.  I headed up Massachussets Ave to Dupont Circle, then up Connecticut to the hotel swinging by a Starbucks for my first drink or food of the day.  Even though their were about a million port-a-potties, they are still port-a-potties.  No thanks!!
I got to the hotel around 4:30 to help with the Youth Ball.  I was WAY early so instead of the job I was signed up for, I got to scan tickets for the security line.   I was relieved at 6 pm and walked down to the Dupont Metro Station where finally no crowds.  It was cute seeing all the couples dressed up in tuxes and gowns taking the metro and walking the town.

YOu spend the entire time walking and standing...you must have been tired. I watched it on TV with the girls, it was everywhere...as it should be. Haven't seen this kind of enthusiasm since Kennedy. I am so proud you were right in the thick of things.
