Day Two- Biltmore Baby!

Hi Everyone, today we headed out early and drove to Asheville. We arrived around 12:30, checked into our very lovely room then headed up to the Big House. It is amazing. The mansion is astounding with every room having a surprisingly individual style. Each room is filled with immaculate restore or recreated tapestry, drapery and furniture. J's favorite room was the two lane bowling alley and his favorite fact was that the bowling balls had only two finger holes. K's favorite room was the basement level indoor heated pool and her favorite fact was that the women were not allowed to bend over the table while playing pool and they could only use these short little sticks insead of the normal pool cue. One original item in the house was the family portrait of the modern day Vanderbilt's and in the background of the portrait is the original family portrait of the 1980's Vanderbuilts while both portaits hang at opposite ends of the same room.

Is the picture of the Vanderbilt's like the picture of Stephen Colbert over his fireplace?

That is exactly what it reminded me of! As goes Stephen, so goes the nation.

The mansion was amazing, can't beleive people lived like that. But it was cool seeing that the servants/women were given their own rooms and chamberpot. The men had to share space and probably chamberpots. My favorite room was His Master-bedroom with the massive spindle furniture and marble bathtub on lion paws. It was a great trip. Thanks
